After being kidnapped and swindled out of his rightful inheritance, the young Scotsman David Balfour allies with the charismatic Jacobite adventurer Alan Breck Stewart. Wrongly blamed for murder, the pair are forced to flee across the Scottish Highlands, constantly pursued by redcoat soldiers as they try to clear their names and survive the perilous landscape.
