For their one-year anniversary, Malcolm, a doctor, takes Liz, a painter, to a remote countryside cabin for a weekend together. They settle in and begin to unpack their quiet, intimate trip, setting a mood of uneasy isolation. The tension hints at secrets beneath the surface as night falls.

They discover a boxed cake left behind in the cabin. Malcolm claims it’s a gift from the caretaker, while Minka speaks in English to Liz that the cake tastes awful. Despite the warning, Malcolm insists Liz should try a slice, sowing the first seed of danger.

Liz begins to experience haunting visions of screaming, bloodied women and a pregnant doppelganger of herself. In the middle of the night she is drawn to the cake and devours a slice, discovering severed bloody fingers inside. The supernatural pressure mounts as the house seems to close in around her.

The next morning, Minka is attacked by an unseen force while walking in the woods, signaling that something malevolent is stalking them. The danger feels personal and immediate as the creatures' presence grows stronger around the property.

Malcolm tells Liz he needs to return to the city to take care of a patient and promises to be back that evening. Liz is left alone with the unsettling occurrences, trying to hold onto a sense of normalcy. His departure signals the beginning of a deeper entanglement with the horrors here.

Unable to reach the outside world, Liz calls her friend Maggie, who offers to collect her. Maggie hints that Malcolm might be married and cheating, which unsettles Liz and compounds her fear. The doubt chips away at Liz’s trust just as the strange phenomena intensify.

Darren arrives and demands to be let inside, carrying a meat cleaver. Liz hides in the bathroom as Darren roams the house, and unseen forces drag him away, leaving his fate unclear. The supernatural control over the men in the house becomes undeniable as the danger closes in.

Malcolm returns and tries to calm Liz, who insists they should go home. He manages to placate her with a drink, and they decide to wait until morning to depart. The deceptive calm masks a deeper truth that will reshape everything.

Liz confronts Malcolm with a hidden photo of him with a wife and daughters, challenging the idea of infidelity. Malcolm reveals a 200-year-old history: he and Darren trapped a pregnant woman who gave birth to the creatures, and the cake was drugged to knock Liz out while the victims were fed to the beings.

Malcolm locks Liz in the basement as the spirits close in. A woman with a bag over her head appears, and when the bag is removed, her face shows multiple eyes, noses, and mouths. The creatures do not attack; they embrace Liz, seeing her as their mother and part of their warped lineage.

The creatures’ influence accelerates Malcolm’s aging, and he is attacked by one of them, signaling the collapse of his control over the situation. The house fills with a growing sense of doom as the bond between the victims and the predators tightens.

At dawn, Malcolm is found suspended upside-down from a tree. Liz approaches with eyes blackened by the creatures, and forces him to drink the remaining drugged cake. He pleads for release and for her to believe his love, but Liz drowns him by dunking his head into a jar of honey and walks away, ending his centuries-long predation.
