The film opens with a montage showing women through different decades, observed by an unseen spectator. Each woman starts happy but grows weary and angry as the sequence progresses. The montage ends with the women screaming and covered in blood, signaling a dark, recurring threat.

Liz and Malcolm arrive at the secluded cabin for a romantic weekend. They settle in and exchange small talk, trying to enjoy their private getaway. The isolation of the setting hints at the trouble to come.

Liz calls her friend Maggie from the cabin, sounding unenthused about the weekend and her relationship. The conversation hints at underlying tensions and dissatisfaction. The remote setting makes her doubts feel heavier.

Darren arrives with his date, Minka, and immediately proves rude. Minka remarks that the cake tastes like shit, sowing unease about the house's hospitality. The tension foreshadows something malevolent underneath the surface.

Liz and Malcolm try the cake; it tastes awful and there are hints of something disturbing inside. Bloody fingers appear to be embedded in the cake, yet Liz consumes it anyway, increasing the sense of danger.

That night, Liz begins seeing visions of the women from the opening montage and a frightening image of someone holding a rifle to her head. The boundary between reality and nightmare blurs as the unseen forces intensify.

The next morning, Minka walks through the woods and is lifted by an unseen force, then killed. The sudden, supernatural violence signals the house's dangerous, otherworldly power.

Malcolm goes into town to deal with a patient, leaving Liz to cope on her own. A call with Maggie returns, with Maggie insinuating that Liz is a 'side piece', deepening Liz's anxiety and sense of isolation.

Darren reappears at the door, drunk and furious, but Liz retreats and hides in the bathroom. Soon the unseen forces drag Darren away and kill him, heightening the sense that the house refuses to let outsiders in.

When Malcolm returns, Liz confronts him about her growing fear. He reveals a centuries-long secret: 200 years ago a pregnant woman found on their property was shot in the leg and kept in a pigpen, where the creatures were born and fed on. The cake's drugging is explained as part of a ritual to keep Liz under control.

Liz attempts to escape by climbing out the window but falls into the lake outside the cabin. The escape ends in failure as the house's dark power keeps her trapped in its orbit.

Liz is locked in the basement where the creatures gather, revealing their many eyes and mouths and their unsettling appendages. They embrace her as if she were their mother, while upstairs Malcolm fights off the assault.

In the morning, Malcolm wakes aged and inverted, while Liz, now more entwined with the creatures, forces him to eat cake. He declares his love, but she calls it a lie, and she drowns him by dunking his head in a jar of honey.

With Malcolm dead, Liz walks away from the cabin, stepping into the dawn under the creatures' watchful presence. The resolution centers on Liz's uncertain freedom and the lingering horror.

The film closes with Liz moving beyond the property line, leaving behind the pigpen secrets and the creatures, though the lingering threat remains implied.
