Lakshmi is portrayed as a dominating, miserly woman who controls all of Sivaswamy's money and treats him with contempt. Even though Ramu only asks for a relatively small amount of ₹3,000, Lakshmi flatly refuses because she views financial control as a power tool. This refusal is the catalyst that drives Ramu to devise the elaborate heist plan with his cousin Mali and friend Appaswamy.

The opening sequence establishes Lakshmi's tight grip on family finances, making her refusal feel consistent with her character.

Appaswamy, a tea shop friend of Ramu and Mali, disguises himself as a godman named Badrinath Swamy Sukranada. This elaborate disguise is meant to gain Lakshmi's trust as a spiritual figure, allowing him access to her hidden vault. The disguise is convincing enough that even the DSP Paramantham, who had previously arrested Appaswamy, is placated when he meets the supposed godman.

The plan is hatched at Ramu and Mali's tea shop, showing the friendship foundation for the risky scheme.

When Rama (the orphan) asks for a conduct certificate to apply for a job as Lakshmi's secretary, doctor Iruthayam at the mental hospital mistakenly gives her the certificate of another girl named Rama who is mentally unstable. This mix-up causes significant confusion later in the story when the mentally unstable Rama also arrives at Lakshmi's house, leading to mistaken identities.

The certificate error is introduced early, setting up the identity confusion that becomes central to the plot.

The plot involves two different women both named Rama: one is a sane orphan seeking employment, and the other is a mentally unstable young woman with her father. Their coincidental meeting at Lakshmi's house creates the central misunderstanding. The sane Rama gets hired as secretary despite the false conduct certificate, while the unstable Rama arrives separately with her father, leading to the identity mix-up that drives the climax.

The telegram announcing the real godman's arrival creates pressure that brings all characters to the same location.

Ramu, his cousin Mali, and friend Appaswamy devise a plan where Appaswamy disguises himself as godman Badrinath Swamy Sukranada to gain Lakshmi's trust. Once Lakshmi trusts the godman and reveals her hidden stash and how to access it, Appaswamy and Ramu carry out the theft at night, hiding the ₹50,000 in a flower pot. The plan works initially, though complications arise when multiple people discover the money.

Lakshmi's decision to show the godman her stash is the key moment that makes the theft possible.

A telegram arrives announcing that the real Badrinath Swamy Sukranada will arrive in two days, creating urgency for Appaswamy to complete the theft before being exposed as an impostor. However, the actual arrival of the real godman is not shown in detail, the resolution happens before this deadline, with all identity confusions cleared and Lakshmi approving Ramu's marriage by that point.

The telegram creates time pressure that motivates the characters to act quickly.

At the climax, the sane Rama cleverly uses a coat to expose the mentally unstable Rama. She tells the unstable Rama that the coat (containing the hidden stolen money) would look nice on her. When Latha's brother refuses to give up the coat, the unstable Rama creates a dramatic scene, visibly reacting in an unstable manner that confirms her condition to everyone present. This clears the confusion about which Rama is sane.

The sane Rama's cleverness was established earlier when she caught Mani stealing money multiple times.

After the unstable Rama attacks Appaswamy in anger, a secret deal is struck: Ramu and Appaswamy agree not to reveal that the sane Rama is actually the one who is insane (based on the mistaken conduct certificate), and in return, the father of the unstable Rama agrees not to expose the robbery plan. This mutual blackmail keeps both parties silent until the climax reveals the truth.

The attack on Appaswamy by the unstable Rama creates the leverage for this secret arrangement.

After the coat test exposes which Rama is truly unstable, all the confusions are cleared. Lakshmi, now understanding the full situation, calms down and agrees to the marriage between Ramu and the sane Rama. The film ends on a happy note with the family's conflicts resolved and order restored.

Ramu and Rama's love had been developing throughout the story, making marriage the natural resolution.

Mani is Lakshmi's brother who wants to buy jewellery for his girlfriend Latha. When he steals ₹5,001 that Lakshmi had donated to the (fake) godman, Rama catches him red-handed. Later, when the stolen heist money is discovered, Mani again tries to hide it by tossing it to Latha's brother, but Rama catches him once more. His repeated theft attempts add complexity to the money subplot.

Mani's desperation for money mirrors Ramu's situation, showing how financial strain affects multiple characters.
