Karma and Debu work at a construction site in Calgary as illegal immigrants. Karma longs for Canadian citizenship to secure a better future, while Debu keeps up a relationship with Nimmi back in Punjab. Their harsh living conditions push Karma to dream of a legal status that will let him settle in Canada.

Immigration officers raid their home, and Debu is arrested while Karma escapes with Dabbu, the family's Golden Retriever. Debu is detained and awaits trial, leaving Karma on his own in a foreign city. Karma hides the news from his friend Harjap and must search for a way to help Debu.

Karma seeks legal help from Harjap Singh Bhangal, who arranges a temporary place for Karma to stay in Canada. At the temporary house, Karma meets Saggi, a Punjabi student, and the two feel a spark that hints at something more. Their bond grows gradually.

In Punjab, Ish's father pressures her to marry a Punjabi boy to secure wealth. To gain time and leverage, Ish devises a plan for a fake marriage and seeks help from Harjap Singh Bhangal, the lawyer known to her family.

Harjap brings the fake marriage proposal to Karma, who, despite having a girlfriend, agrees seeing it as a rare chance to obtain Canadian citizenship. He believes the arrangement could help him and Saggi start a life together in Canada. Karma decides to take the risk despite the moral compromise.

Karma marries Ish legally, and the marriage remains a secret from everyone except Harjap. The wedding is presented as genuine to most people, while the truth is hidden to preserve Karma's immigration plan. This sets off a web of lies that will strain all involved.

Karma confesses the truth to Saggi, explaining the fake marriage and his reasons for it. Saggi is upset and leaves Karma, refusing to accept his explanation at that moment. She returns to India with her plans unsettled.

While Karma's deception weighs on him, Ish's band betrays her and she becomes heartbroken. Karma steps in to help her through the aftermath, and over time Ish begins to fall in love with him.

Saggi completes her studies and decides to return to India, pondering what lies ahead. Her roommate urges her to hear Karma's side of the story before deciding, giving him a last chance for reconciliation.

Saggi visits Karma and Ish’s house while Karma is away, and Ish reveals that the marriage was fake but she cannot help loving Karma. Saggi learns the truth, is hurt, and departs with a heavy heart.

Karma qualifies for Canadian citizenship but refuses to accept it during the ceremony, realizing his true wish is to be with Saggi rather than gain a passport. He tells Ish that he will pursue his love instead of a new status.

Ish encourages Karma to go to India in search of Saggi, who is about to be engaged. Karma leaves his old life behind, determined to find her.

Karma finds Saggi in India, where she is on the verge of engagement. Saggi's brother accepts Karma, clearing the way for their reconciliation and future together.

Karma and Saggi finally marry, sealing their long-awaited reunion and future together. Their journey from deception to love culminates in a committed partnership.
