Ip Man 4: The Finale

In 1964, Ip Man learns that he is suffering from throat cancer, a dire consequence of his smoking habits. This news comes shortly after the passing of his beloved wife, adding emotional turmoil to his life.

Ip Man's son, Ip Ching, faces expulsion from school for standing up against a bully. This rebellious act creates additional concern for Ip Man as he contemplates his son's educational future.

To address his concerns, Ip Man accepts an invitation from his former student, Bruce Lee, to travel to San Francisco. This trip serves a dual purpose: seeking a suitable school for his son and confronting his own health issues.

In San Francisco, Bruce Lee has made waves by establishing his own Wing Chun school. He is actively training Americans and has published an English book on martial arts, creating a stir within the local martial arts community.

To enroll his son in a new school, Ip Man discovers he needs a referral letter from the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association. The president of the Association, Wan, denies him, wanting Ip to denounce Bruce Lee's teachings.

A confrontation erupts between Ip Man and Wan as they briefly engage in combat to test their martial skills. Despite Ip's skill, he leaves empty-handed, not securing the referral letter he needs for his son.

While leaving a meeting, Ip Man witnesses Wan's daughter, Yonah, being bullied by Becky. Ip intervenes and ensures Yonah's safety, but this leads to an unintended injury to Becky, stirring further conflict with Wan.

Infuriated by the incident involving his daughter, Wan challenges Ip to a duel. However, the challenge is interrupted by an earthquake, allowing Ip to defuse the situation and clarify his intentions were solely for Yonah's safety.

As tensions rise, Becky’s father, Andrew Walters, is under pressure to hold the Association accountable and deport Chinese members. This adds to the already charged atmosphere surrounding Ip Man and Bruce Lee's teachings.

During the Mid Autumn Festival, a significant confrontation occurs when Bart Geddes challenges several grandmasters. Ip Man steps in to confront Geddes, resulting in a fierce battle that showcases Ip's exceptional martial arts skills.

After a series of events lead to Wan's detention, Geddes pressures Walters to release him. This escalates into a confrontation at the camp where Ip Man ultimately defeats Geddes in a grueling fight.

Following the battle with Geddes, Wan prepares the referral letter for Ip Man. However, he expresses his reluctance to stay in San Francisco, displaying his ties and feelings for his original home.

In a heartwarming moment, Ip Man reconciles with his son Ip Ching. He encourages him to film a demonstration of Wing Chun on the wooden dummy, symbolizing their connection and heritage.

By 1972, as Ip Man succumbs to his illness at the age of 79, his legacy is honored at his funeral by Bruce Lee, showcasing the deep respect and connection they shared.

The story concludes with a look back at 2001, when the U.S. Marines officially incorporate Chinese martial arts into their training routines. This act serves as a lasting testament to Ip Man's influence and legacy in martial arts.
