In 2019, Josh Lambert attempts to suppress painful memories from his past involvement with The Further. The recent passing of his mother, Lorraine, intensifies his emotional distress, complicating his state of mind as he tries to navigate life post-trauma.

Josh's divorce from his wife, Renai Lambert, signifies a major upheaval in his life. His attempt to reconnect with his son, Dalton, during a college drop-off escalates into a heated argument, showcasing their complicated relationship filled with frustration and unresolved issues.

While attending his first art class in college, Dalton unknowingly sketches the ominous red door that represents the threshold to The Further. This unintentional artwork serves as a harbinger of the traumatic events soon to unfold.

As time passes, Josh starts being haunted by the spirit of a man he recognizes as his father, Ben Burton. This revelation forces Josh to confront painful memories of feeling abandoned during his childhood, adding to his existing turmoil.

New to college life, Dalton goes to a frat party with his roommate Chris Winslow. During the festivities, Dalton encounters the ghost of a fellow student plagued by an unending illness, foreshadowing the horrors awaiting him.

After an unsettling incident, Dalton discovers he can astral project into The Further once again. As Chris learns about this ability from a YouTube video, he decides to watch over Dalton as he attempts to navigate this dangerous skill.

While guarding Dalton’s physical body, Chris falls victim to a malevolent force. The chaos culminates when Dalton rushes back to confront a terrifying sight: the very red-faced demon that haunted him in his childhood.

Dalton receives a distressing phone call from his brother Foster, who shares his nightmare involving their father trying to harm them. This shocking revelation triggers Dalton’s buried memories and inspires him to create a troubling painting of a possessed Josh.

Pulled back into The Further, Dalton faces a traumatic memory of a possessed Josh attacking them in their basement. This confrontation with the past reveals the deep-seated fears rooted in their family's history.
