Inheritance turns out to be more about family and perception than about wealth. Wladyslaw Fortuna’s seemingly mysterious death is actually a murder committed by his grandson, Romeo, also known as Gustaw. Romeo was driven by revenge after believing that Wladyslaw’s mistaken understanding during a TV game show led to his grandmother Katarzyna’s tragic death. She misunderstood Wladyslaw’s gesture and took her own life, which left Romeo feeling betrayed and resentful towards his grandfather. When Romeo confronted Wladyslaw about the past, he stabbed him in a moment of anger, not intending to kill, but the wound was fatal. The police catch Romeo, and he is imprisoned for the crime, but he marries Natalia in jail, creating a bittersweet ending for their love story.

Meanwhile, the family’s attempt to find material inheritance is ultimately a joke—Wladyslaw’s elaborate puzzles and treasure hunts are designed to teach them that what truly matters isn’t wealth, but their unexpected unity. The fake treasure hunt and the fake police investigation reveal how unconnected and secretive they all are, yet through completing the challenges, they rediscover a sense of kinship and appreciation for each other. The film ends ambiguously with a small twist: Henryk solves a Rubik’s cube, which Wladyslaw claimed to have invented, revealing a USB stick inside—possibly containing the designs of the inventions. This suggests that Dawid’s family might actually inherit Wladyslaw’s true treasure, or it could be a final joke from Wladyslaw, emphasizing that the real inheritance is the newfound bond among them. Ultimately, the story is about how family, perception, and love are often more valuable than money, leaving the audience with a message that what binds us is often intangible and worth more than material wealth.
