After Elliot finds Erika apparently dead in her pool, her body vanishes and he is questioned as the likely killer. The police release him when they find no evidence, and Erika then appears at Zap's apartment to reveal that she and Vikktor staged everything. Elliot's drunken outburst at her exhibition, the disappearance, and the murder suspicion were manufactured publicity that caused the entire show to sell out. He is furious that their already exploitative relationship has become another artwork, but Erika advises him to turn the scandal into a career instead of remaining its anonymous victim.

Two years later, Elliot is a successful podcast host working with Zap, while Erika promotes a book about the disappearance and has devoted a chapter to him. Another jump appears to show them marrying, only for Erika's face to melt grotesquely; they wake in separate beds as though both shared the nightmare. The false wedding refuses the romantic ending their power imbalance might conventionally invite. Erika can monetize Elliot, and Elliot can reclaim attention through his own platform, but neither can convert the experience into safe intimacy. Their shared dream is the final bond: a comic-horrific fantasy in which the relationship's glamorous public story literally dissolves when imagined as permanence.
