Hilda and the Mountain King

The story picks up with Hilda transformed into a troll and desperately trying to escape her mother, Trylla. Her situation turns dire when she steps into the sunlight and is petrified, trapping her temporarily in an immobile state.

Back in Trolberg, Johanna discovers Baba and, with Tontu’s help, realizes that Hilda has fallen under a changeling spell. Understanding the severity of the situation, she bands together with Baba, Tontu, Alfur, and Twig to locate Hilda.

Erik Ahlberg holds a press conference in response to increasing troll-related incidents. He announces a curfew in Trolberg, which draws public attention and prompts David's mother to consider joining the Trolberg Safety Patrol.

Students at Edmund Ahlberg Elementary School watch a skewed safety video about trolls that stirs discontent. Frida and David lead protests against the misinformation, seeking to educate their peers about trolls.

As night falls, Hilda successfully unpetrifies but struggles to return home due to ominous belltowers surrounding the area. She stumbles upon a bell-adorned cave where she meets a giant troll named Trundle, who promises to help her regain her human form.

While hiding in the Stone Forest to avoid sunlight, Hilda hears a distress signal that only trolls can perceive. This sound calls the trolls towards Trolberg, heightening her sense of urgency to find help.

Frida and David learn of Hilda's predicament after Baba escapes from Tontu. Despite warnings from Kaisa, Frida attempts a risky body swap spell to help Hilda, but the spell fails.

Hilda embarks on her first task assigned by Trundle, which requires delivering troll mead discreetly. As she works, Trundle urges her to eliminate the bells binding him to the cave, increasing the stakes of her mission.

During their collaboration, Trylla tells Hilda about the Mountain King's castle, revealing significant tensions and past conflicts between trolls and humans. With the changeling spell unbreakable, Hilda decides to assist Trundle in his tasks.

Johanna and Alfur finally locate the entrance to the Stone Forest, but trolls swiftly intervene, thwarting their progress. Their escape becomes frantic as danger looms close.

With time running out, Johanna seeks Erik Ahlberg's help as a last resort. Meanwhile, Frida suggests a magical connection with a troll, recalling her past experiences, igniting hope.

Hilda retrieves a mysterious red orb from the Mountain King's castle and is engulfed in a surreal vision featuring a colossal creature resembling her mother. This vision evokes a sense of dread and urgency to escape.

As Hilda emerges from the Stone Forest, a chaotic battle ensues with a massive bearded troll pursuing her. The confrontation culminates in the troll unwittingly destroying Johanna's car and tumbling into a ravine.

Hilda and Johanna present the orb to Trundle, who shocks everyone by revealing that it is his eye. With his sight restored, he claims the title of Mountain King and rallies the trolls for an assault on Trolberg.

As the trolls approach Trolberg, Hilda realizes that their aggressive actions could awaken a powerful mother troll, leading to catastrophic consequences. In a pivotal moment, Ahlberg comes to terms with the danger after a compelling vision.
