Ranger Smith foils Yogi's latest food theft and decides to remove him from Jellystone to San Diego Zoo, complete with an identification tag. The move aims to settle the bear's antics once and for all and save the park from further trouble. The plan sets the stage for Yogi's and Cindy's separation.

Yogi pretends to say goodbye to everything he loves, then tricks Corn Pone into taking the California slot instead of him. Boo-Boo and Cindy remain unaware of the ruse as the transfer plan proceeds. The deception preserves Yogi’s chance to stay free for a while longer.

The bears end up in a moving van that takes them into New York City, where they sprint from the police. They scale to the top of a hotel and cross to a high-rise under construction, trying to stay one step ahead of capture. The urban chaos tests their resolve and wits.

Ranger Smith spots the spectacle on television and arranges a helicopter rescue. Jellystone gains massive publicity from the escapade, and the bears are brought back home, promising to be good bears from then on. The park ends the adventure on a light, hopeful note.
