Hey There, It’s Yogi Bear!

Boo-Boo Bear wakes up from winter hibernation, Don Messick excited about the arrival of spring, and the park buzzes with the tiny, playful chaos that follows him. Soon after, Yogi Bear, Daws Butler at the helm, stirs with one clear hunger in mind: food. The two bears set a lighthearted but uneasy tone for Jellystone as they circle the routines of camp life, while Cindy Bear, Julie Bennett, tries in vain to charm Yogi into a gentler mood. Her hopes are dashed as Ranger Smith intervenes, thwarting Yogi’s latest attempt to snag a snack and prompting a rash plan that could change Yogi’s fate.

The park’s security-minded Ranger Smith hatches a bold solution: transfer Yogi out of Jellystone to the San Diego Zoo, complete with an identification tag. It’s a decision that prompts a bittersweet farewell swirl, but Yogi seizes a chance at escape when he tricks a fellow bear named Cornpone, Hal Smith, into California instead of himself. Unbeknownst to Boo-Boo and Cindy, the ruse lets Yogi believe he’s secured a fresh start, even as the others remain convinced that he has truly left for good.

Meanwhile, Yogi’s mischief escalates into a city-spanning caper. He adopts the persona of The Brown Phantom, stealing food from across the park and earning a reputation as a mysterious vigilante that the Park Commissioner supposedly hired to replace him. Ranger Smith, unaware of Yogi’s ruse, pours effort into the chase, threatening whoever is behind the thefts and plotting to arrest the phantom to save Jellystone. The legend grows, and the tension between loyalty and freedom gnaws at the trio.

Cindy, longing to be near Yogi, learns that she’s inadvertently been mailed toward the wrong zoo. She’s dispatched to the St. Louis Zoo instead of the San Diego Zoo, and the realization that she’ll be far from her bear leads to heartbreak and tears. Her journey takes a strange turn when, late at night, she falls from a train and becomes separated from her friends. A traveling circus run by the Chizzling Brothers sees an opportunity to boost their act and, when their dog Mugger spurts away, Cindy’s high-wire act becomes the perfect spectacle to save the show.

On the road, Yogi misses Boo-Boo and Cindy intensely. An unexpected turn of events pulls him away from Jellystone as he and Boo-Boo head off to locate Cindy. Ranger Smith, focused on getting Yogi back, ends up locking himself away in a closet, allowing Yogi and Boo-Boo to slip out and begin a perilous, globe-trotting rescue mission. The quest leads them to the circus, where Cindy is performing under threat but remains determined to return home, and where a clever escape becomes a matter of life and liberty for the three friends.

As they press on, Cindy is kept in a cage within the circus, and Grifter Chizzling—Mel Blanc—takes pleasure in taunting them, insisting they’re now part of the act. Grifter’s line of fate lands Yogi in a tight spot, squaring off with the villain’s trap and leading to a pivotal moment of cooperation and courage. The moment is brief, as Boo-Boo insists on a daring rescue that frees them all from the circus’s grip and pushes them toward Jellystone’s familiar bedrock of friendship and fun.

Ranger Smith, watching the wider picture, chooses to let them find their own way home to avoid further trouble with the Park Commissioner. The trio’s return journey becomes a rollercoaster of mishaps and near misses: they crash a barnyard party, ride a river on a barn door, and narrowly outrun the law in wild, slapstick chases. The dream of Venice as a honeymoon fades into a more urgent goal: making it back to their home before the park falls apart at the seams.

In a final, cinematic rush, they end up in New York City amid a chaotic escape, scaling a hotel and sprinting across a high-rise under construction. The next morning, Ranger Smith sees the entire episode on television and launches a dramatic helicopter rescue. Back at Jellystone, the Park Commissioner rewards the brave trio with a proud new status for Smith: Chief Ranger, a symbol of restored order and communal joy. The bears return to Jellystone with a vow to be “good bears” from then on, and the park settles into a peaceful, joyful rhythm once more, grateful for the unlikely adventures that brought them closer together.
