Henry's Crime

Henry works as a toll collector on a remote highway in Buffalo, New York. His life lacks ambition, dreams, or any clear purpose, and his discontent is echoed by his unhappy wife, Debbie.

One morning, Henry's friend Eddie visits him and invites him to join a baseball game. This seemingly innocent invitation will lead to a series of life-altering events for Henry.

While en route to the game, Eddie asks Henry to stop at an ATM. Instead of withdrawing cash, Eddie and two accomplices orchestrate a robbery at the Buffalo Savings Bank, with Henry unwittingly involved.

After the robbery, Henry is arrested as an accomplice despite his innocence. He chooses to protect his friends by staying silent, which leads him to serve time in prison.

In prison, Henry meets Max, a charismatic conman who has become accustomed to life behind bars. Max introduces the notion that to find purpose, one must first have a dream.

While Henry is in prison, Debbie grows tired of waiting for him to change. She divorces Henry and marries Joe, one of the men responsible for the bank robbery.

After serving 18 months, Henry is released from prison. Rather than starting fresh, he embraces his criminal past and begins formulating a plan to reclaim his life.

Henry discovers a long-abandoned tunnel used by bootleggers that connects the bank to a nearby theater. He sees this as an opportunity to execute a well-planned robbery.

Henry convinces Max to help him stage a robbery by filing for his overdue parole. Together, they plan the details of the heist, setting their sights on the Buffalo Savings Bank.

Henry takes on a role in the theater's production of Anton Chekhov's 'The Cherry Orchard'. This experience ignites a newfound passion within him, transitioning from criminal to actor.

As rehearsals progress, Henry develops feelings for Julie, the leading lady of the production. This connection adds an emotional layer to his journey of self-discovery.

Joe, now Debbie's husband, is recruited to assist in clearing the tunnel. Eddie, eager to participate, pressures the group into letting him join the robbery, complicating their plan.

During the bank robbery, tensions rise as Eddie attempts to take all the money for himself. Max overpowers him, leaving him trapped in the vault as Henry and Joe make their escape.

As they make their escape, Henry tells Joe to stop the car. He bids farewell to Max, returning to his feelings for Julie as he contemplates his next steps in life.
