In 1880 on the edge of the fictional Scottish town of Levenford stands a looming half‑cottage, half‑castle called Hatter’s Castle. Hatmaker James Brodie built it and rules his family with brutal arrogance. His ailing wife and daughter Mary worship him, while his 15‑year‑old son Angus suffers his love. Mary's shame is forgiven by the man who loves her.
