Hang Tuah

As teenagers, Tuah and his four friends defeat pirates at sea, earning early fame as local heroes. They later study under Tok Guru Adi at Mount Ledang, training to become formidable warriors. During these years, Tuah meets Melor, a native girl who shares his affection, and they vow that she will seek him in Malacca if fate brings them together.

After finishing their studies, the friends return to the Malacca Sultanate and rescue Bendahara Dato' Tun Perak from an angry mob on his way to meet Sultan Mansur Shah. The Sultan is impressed by their bravery and appoints Tuah and his companions as warriors. Their rapid ascent unsettles rivals like Tun Ali, who grows jealous.

The Sultan travels to Majapahit to marry Raden Mas Ayu, with Tuah and the others in tow. In a ceremonial contest, Tuah defeats the warrior Taming Sari and learns that the opponent’s strength lies in a magical keris. After Taming Sari’s death, Tuah is awarded the keris, elevating his power.

Sultan Mansur Shah desires Tun Teja for his wife, while Teja is still engaged to Megat Panji Alam, prompting Tuah to undertake a secret mission to Pahang to bring Teja to Malacca.

Melor arrives in Malacca in search of Tuah and runs afoul of the court’s men when she encounters Tun Ali and Pateh Karma Wijaya. To escape, she pretends to be a palace handmaiden, cleverly deceiving her would-be captors. Her presence unsettles the palace as Tuah’s feelings for her intensify.

In Pahang, Tuah’s deception leads Tun Teja to break off her engagement to Megat Panji Alam. On their return journey to Malacca, Tuah finally reveals that his mission was to deliver Teja to the Sultan.

Back in Malacca, Tuah struggles between loyalty to the Sultan and his love for Melor, who is now a palace handmaiden. Dang Rani, acting under Tun Ali and Pateh Karma Wijaya’s orders, urges him to meet Melor. The meeting is interrupted when the Sultan accuses Tuah of treason for consorting with a palace handmaiden and orders his execution.

Tuah’s sacred Taming Sari keris is entrusted to Jebat, who rises as a new warrior for the Sultan. But Jebat views Tuah’s punishment as injustice and vows to avenge him.

Melor seeks justice and attempts to assassinate Pateh Karma Wijaya with a kerambit during a royal performance. A guard stops her, and she is killed, depriving Tuah of any immediate recourse to justice.

Jebat runs amok through the Sultan’s palace, prompting the Sultan to flee to the Bendahara’s residence. Ashamed, the Sultan laments Tuah’s execution and learns from Tun Perak that Tuah was secretly spared and hidden in a prison cell.

The Sultan pardons Tuah and summons him back to face Jebat. Tuah asks for the Taming Sari keris to confront his old friend, but learns that Jebat already possesses it. He journeys to the palace to meet Jebat and refuses to abandon his loyalty, pressing forward.

In their final duel, Tuah cannot harm Jebat because of the keris’s magic. Jebat, recognizing Tuah’s resolve, willingly exchanges kerises, and Tuah then kills Jebat with a fatal strike. Jebat dies in Tuah’s arms.

The Sultan elevates Tuah to the rank of Laksamana as the city cheers his promotion, but Tuah mourns both Melor and Jebat and questions whether unwavering loyalty to the Sultan was just or whether Jebat’s stand against injustice was righteous.
