Madhavan's son Ulpalakshan forms a close bond with Unnikrishnan and travels alongside him. The two grow up as loyal companions, sharing plans and helping each other navigate their world. Their camaraderie frames much of the story's backdrop.

A gang of goons arrives to seize Madhavan's land, triggering a violent confrontation. Unnikrishnan steps in and beats them to pulp, proving his strength and loyalty. The clash forces him to leave the place and seek a new start.

On the way to the city, Unnikrishnan comes across a girl being chased by a crowd calling her a thief. He observes the tense scene and is drawn into the unfolding web of trouble. The street encounter foreshadows the connections that will shape his fate.

Unnikrishnan reaches the city and becomes the shadow of the wheelchair-bound Ganapathy Iyer. He is employed by Iyer and begins a close, almost invisible association. This marks a transition from rural survivor to urban operative.

Around the same time, Ulpalakshan also arrives in the city and enters Iyer's service. The two young men become Iyer's aides, tangling their fates with the enigmatic financier. The new alliance expands the web surrounding Iyer's past and plans.

Ganapathy Iyer reveals that he once loved Savithri and had to leave the country, later discovering she had a daughter. He has spent years hoping to locate them and mourns the distance between his memories and his present life. He asks Unnikrishnan to help trace Savithri and the daughter.

Unnikrishnan and Ulpalakshan decide that finding Savithri will be difficult, so they propose presenting a different girl as Iyer's daughter and telling him Savithri is dead. The ruse is meant to ease his illness and grant him some closure. It foreshadows the moral complications to come.
