Gunaa

Gunaa is an asylum inmate, and his cellmate's tale lodges in his mind, shaping a vivid belief that Abhirami is an avatar who will marry him on a full moon. The story takes hold and begins to guide his thoughts and desires. He starts to dream of Abhirami as a living presence rather than a mere tale.

After a psychiatric evaluation, Dr. Ganesh sanctions Gunaa's release. Yet Gunaa leaves the facility carrying his Abhirami obsession, determined to locate her in the outside world. He refuses to abandon the belief that the goddess awaits him.

Chitappa enlists Gunaa's lock-busting skills to help pay overdue rent by planning a theft. At a temple rehearsal, Gunaa spots a wealthy heiress whose looks match Abhirami, and she smiles when he approaches with his strange devotion. He convinces himself she could be the goddess incarnate.

On the scheduled day, Gunaa opens the temple safe for Chitappa's men. He chases the heiress again and inadvertently traps Chitappa's men inside, prompting officials to close in. They escape with jewels in a car, triggering a dangerous pursuit that ends with a crash.

The wounded thief seizes the heiress's car and drives away, with Gunaa joining the chase. The car crashes and plunges into the sea, taking the wounded man with it. Gunaa miraculously saves the heiress and the jewels, later bringing them to his home.

Landlord Ismail spots a newspaper reward for the heiress's safe return and, aided by his goons, mistakes Rohini for a new prostitute. They confront Gunaa to extort money and status, while Rohini remains a focal point of their greed. Gunaa tries to shield her and keeps them at bay.

To shield Rohini, Gunaa drives her to a dilapidated church on a hill and continues addressing her as Abhirami. The hillside sanctuary becomes their fragile refuge, where his devotion deepens and hers begins to soften. Rohini remains wary but senses the depth of his care.

Chitappa's allies reach the church, and Rohini is coerced to sign blank papers to placate the wealth-seeking guardian SK. She agrees to avoid being killed, but SK still plots to seize her fortune and power. Gunaa's resolve hardens as danger closes in around them.

Gunaa intervenes, kills Ismail, and knocks SK unconscious before carrying Rohini to a cave for safety. Rohini, initially resistant, admits she loves him and embraces the Abhirami identity he has forged. She agrees to marry him, sealing their bond in danger.

Rohini agrees to marry Gunaa on a full moon night, and the ceremony takes place under the moon's glow. The moment deepens their shared devotion and seals their unconventional union. The next morning, Rohini wakes with a fever prompting a call for medical help.

Gunaa seeks medical help for Rohini by consulting a doctor, whose assistant spots Gunaa in a newspaper and alerts Inspector Moovendhar. Moovendhar and his men close in, and Gunaa steals a gun to defend Rohini and escort the doctor toward the cave. A tense standoff begins as officers converge.

Moovendhar surrounds the cave with reinforcements and declares a shoot-at-sight order. Rosy and Gunaa's kin arrive to urge surrender, while Rohini steps out to declare they are safe and ready to expose SK. The tension peaks as SK overhears this plan.

SK shoots Rohini in a moment of rage, cutting short Rohini's bid to reveal his crimes. Enraged, Gunaa retaliates by killing SK, cradling Rohini as she dies in his arms. He laments that humans cannot understand his love for Abhirami.

Grief-stricken, Gunaa leads Rohini's body toward a cliff and confronts fate as the full moon rises. He steps to the edge and jumps, perishing with Rohini as the moon shines overhead, sealing their tragic saga in the night.
