Struggling inventor Randall Peltzer travels to a Chinatown antique shop in search of a memorable Christmas gift for his son, Billy. There, he encounters a small, endearing creature—the mogwai—whose soft fur and curious eyes hint at a gentleness that could warm even the chilliest December. The shop owner, Mr. Wing, keeps the mogwai hidden away in a quiet corner, unwilling to part with it, but his grandson secretly sells it to Randall.
