Grave Torture

In the family bakery, Ismail (the Dad) and his wife run the shop daily as their children grow up around kneading dough. The hum of the mixer and the scent of fresh bread frame the family’s modest world. The Boy, Andro Trinanda, is curious and close to his sister Sita, sharing the shop’s orderly routine.

A stranger enters the shop with a cassette for Adil, claiming it contains a message from the speaker and urging refuge with Allah. The man warns Adil not to go outside, then detonates a suicide bomb on the street, killing many and shattering the family’s life. The blast takes their parents and leaves Sita and Adil to confront a sudden, irreversible loss.

In the wake of the massacre, the siblings are sent to a strictly religious boarding school. The weight of grief presses in and fear of what comes after death grows. Sita fixates on Siksa Kubur while Adil grapples with the emptiness of life at home.

One night, Sita overhears Umaya and Ustadzah discussing their benefactor, Mr. Ilham, and his abuse of several children. The revelation uncovers a dark truth behind the community’s façade and Ismail’s death, deepening Sita’s determination to seek justice. The weight of hidden crimes begins to drive Sita toward a dangerous pursuit of truth.

Sita confronts Ilham at his residence, where Ilham commits a horrifying assault in front of Adil. The siblings flee through a tunnel, guided by fear and resolve, while visions of Ismail haunt their escape. The escape marks a turning point from grief to a dangerous pursuit of truth.

Years pass and the siblings mature into adults. Sita works in a nursing home, still pressed by the belief in punishments after death, while Adil becomes a mortician, tending both the living and the dead. The lives of the siblings become intertwined with questions of faith, care, and the meaning of suffering.

During a cemetery visit for a burial, Sita and Adil encounter Masbeth’s grave, a site tied to the bomber’s claimed recording. Sita hints that the killer’s message might have been linked to the grave, unsettling Adil and deepening the mystery of what lies in the earth. The past and present converge in this chilling graveyard moment.

Adil’s personal life strains as his wife Lala accuses him of emotional distance and overwork, ending their marriage. The rupture compounds the trauma both siblings carry, revealing the cost of their relentless pursuit of truth. The home becomes another site of tension and unresolved grief.

The confrontation with Ilham culminates in his suicide after Adil’s questioning. Sita and Adil decide to bury Ilham in a grave beside Masbeth, a grim act that binds the two men’s sins. Sita agrees to lie in the grave with Ilham for one night, ready to observe whether any punishment truly occurs.

While Sita lies in the grave with Ilham, a cobra forces its way through the air shaft and enters Ilham’s throat as he awakens. Adil keeps watch above ground, and the night becomes a crucible of fear, guilt, and haunted visions. The sequence blurs the line between life, death, and the afterlife’s mysteries.

Adil breaks through the earth to pull Sita free, ending the night of terror. A spectral voice asks the haunting question, "Who is your god?", echoing the film’s central crisis of belief, guilt, and mercy. The moment reframes their ordeal in terms of spiritual inquiry rather than merely survival.

A live TV interview broadcasts Sita’s account, but the memory card is blank, fueling suspicion that someone tampered with it. A seance led by Mrs. Juwita then stirs further disturbances as Nani’s spirit nudges a killer toward forgiveness and murder. The broadcast and seance catalyze a wave of fear, faith, and feverish speculation.

In the closing moments, Pandi and Nani survive and stay together, suggesting some form of fragile continuity. The film leaves Sita’s fate ambiguous, hinting that her death occurred on the first night she shared Ilham’s grave, and invites viewers to weigh what grave torture means for belief and mercy.
