Fuzzbucket

Michael Gerber is an awkward young boy who is about to start junior high, and he has no real friends. His Mom and Dad are constantly fighting, creating a tense, unsettled home life. His only companion is an imaginary friend he calls Fuzzbucket, a presence that seems invisible to everyone else. The film follows his quiet struggle to cope with loneliness while clinging to this fantastical friend who feels almost real in the margins of his day-to-day life.

In the movie’s opening act, the line between fantasy and reality blurs. To the other characters, Fuzzbucket remains purely imaginary, but when Michael Gerber experiments with a strange, green concoction for his friend to drink, the creature reappears in full color and form. With the danger behind them, Michael continues to chase and follows the creature into the heart of the forest, stumbling into the lair where the Fuzzbucket family seems to cluster. Creatures scatter in fright, and it’s there that the real Fuzzbucket appears, not just as a figment but as a being with a choice to offer help. He tells Michael that because of everything Michael did to help him, Fuzzbucket will also lend his aid. When the search party eventually finds Michael under a tree, the group brings him back home.
