Matylda, a rural Czech woman, struggles to arrange a burial for her ailing husband Jan. She hopes to hold the ceremony in the small town they once called home, but Jan was expelled years earlier for publicly denouncing the Communist regime. When a local official denies permission, Matylda turns the funeral into a bold act of dissent, using the occasion to protest the authorities.
