A deep conflict erupts, ending with Runeard’s death and a rift that unleashes tumult in the elements of earth, fire, water, and air. The aftermath leaves a wall of mist, isolating the forest from the outside world, while Agnarr barely escapes with the help of an unseen savior. The memory of this event casts a shadow over the kingdom and sows a question that the sisters will eventually seek to answer: what really happened, and what must be done to mend what was broken?

Three years into Elsa’s reign, the kingdom basks in a season of autumn’s color and calm. Elsa, Anna, Olaf the snowman, Kristoff the iceman, and Sven the reindeer enjoy the scenery and the warmth of family, yet a mysterious voice begins to call to Elsa at night. The journey to the Enchanted Forest deepens the mystery and broadens the stakes. Elsa’s touch parts the mist, and the air spirit appears as a violent tornado that lashes through the woods. Elsa acts quickly, turning the swirling danger into ice-sculpted memories that reveal fragments of their father’s past. A friendly but powerful fire spirit—a living salamander with untamed energy—forms a wary alliance with Elsa, while a growing alliance with the Northuldra begins to take shape amid the lingering conflict between them and Arendelle’s soldiers. They uncover their parents’ ship wreck and a map pointing toward Ahtohallan, a legendary river said to illuminate the past. Believing Elsa should press onward, she continues alone, bidding Anna and Olaf to safety. In the perilous depths, Elsa encounters and tames the Nøkk, a water spirit who guards the seas that lead to Ahtohallan. There, she learns that the voice guiding her is the memory of young Iduna, and that her own powers are a gift from nature, awakened by Iduna’s selfless act to save Agnarr. Venturing into the most dangerous depths, Elsa discovers a dam built as a ruse to tighten resources for the Northuldra, orchestrated by Runeard’s contempt for magical ties between people and land. The dam’s purpose becomes painfully clear: to suppress the Northuldra and ignite a conflict that would allow control of their magic and land. Elsa conveys this truth to Anna, then faints, frozen in a moment that echoes the past and the cost of uncovering it.

With the truth at hand, the sisters agree that destruction is the only path to lasting peace. Anna resolves to end the dam’s power, summoning the earth spirit, Jötunn, to lead the charge. The forest giants unleash a torrent of boulders that shatter the dam and unleash a flood toward Arendelle. Elsa thaws in time to ride the Nøkk, using her own magic to divert and then freeze the rising waters, protecting the kingdom. The mist over the forest dissolves, Olaf is revived, and the sisters’ bond is reaffirmed as they face the consequences of their revelations. In the aftermath, Elsa reveals that she is the actual fifth spirit, the bridge between humans and the magical world, and she chooses a new role: she abdicates the throne to Anna and becomes the guardian of the Enchanted Forest, visiting Arendelle to maintain a fragile, hopeful peace between the two realms.
