From Within

Sean reads from a mysterious black book with Natalie by his side. After finishing the reading, he kisses her and then shoots himself in their home. The act triggers a dark sequence of events connected to the book.

Natalie bursts into a Grovetown clothes shop drenched in blood, clutching the black book. The back room door slams shut; Bernard breaks in and finds Natalie dying with a pair of scissors lodged in her neck. The shocking scene reverberates through the town.

That night Bernard is haunted by a ghostly figure connected to Natalie’s death. The following day, his niece Molly discovers him dead, hanged in the same room where Natalie died. The haunting hints at a curse spreading through the family and town.

At Grovetown High, Dylan publicly attacks Aidan Spindle, blaming his family for the deaths. Lindsay helps tend Aidan’s wounds and drives him home. She learns that Aidan’s brother is Sean, the boy whose suicide shadowed Natalie's death.

That night Molly begins seeing a ghost that looks exactly like her, which slits her wrists. She dies from the self-inflicted injuries, intensifying the town’s sense of an unseen force at work.

The following day, Claire drives past Molly’s body and begins hearing voices. A doppelgänger of Claire appears in the school toilets. Later, Claire’s car explodes while she’s driving, in front of Trish who had attempted to rescue her.

Lindsay becomes aware of Dylan’s religious fervor and warns him of the danger to Aidan. She then meets Sadie, Dylan’s cousin who has traveled from New York for Sean’s funeral.

Lindsay is abducted by Dylan and Roy at Trish’s consent and taken to the local church to be purified. Back home, Trish is thrilled about being saved but is later haunted by doppelgängers of herself on the television and forced to drink drain cleaner.

Lindsay returns home and discovers Trish’s body, fearing they are all trapped by the curse. Aidan admits that victims see themselves and that a sacrifice can end the curse; he provides Lindsay with protective oil and identifies the black book as the key to locking it away.

Lindsay and Aidan break into a church to relocate the black book. Sadie confronts them with a gun and reveals that Sean’s suicide was engineered to start the curse; Paul, Roy and Dylan rush in to intervene. They manage to rescue the book just as Sadie attempts to burn it.

Dylan, Paul and Roy pursue Aidan and Lindsay as they escape into the woods. The two split up with the plan to rendezvous at the pier, continuing to shield the book and the curse from their pursuers.

Roy reveals his fanatic devotion and returns to the scene, setting Sadie alight with gasoline and claiming he is performing God’s will. Her death marks another brutal act driven by the town’s fevered beliefs.

Lindsay reaches the pier, but her doppelgänger ghost closes in. She recites a prayer and slips into the water, but Aidan arrives in time to stop her from strangling herself, as they reaffirm their shared goal to end the curse.

Aidan merges his blood with Sean’s on the book and declares that a sacrifice is needed to end the curse, kissing Lindsay before apparently shooting himself. Dylan arrives and shoots Aidan, negating the sacrifice as Paul and others rush in. Lindsay shoots Dylan in self-defense as the situation spirals.

Lindsay attempts to burn the book but the curse resists, a gust of wind from the ghost extinguishes the fire, and the ghost’s bleeding eye signals that Lindsay is the next victim. The film ends with a montage showing other characters dead by suicide as the curse continues to claim Grovetown.
