Forever Young

During a 1939 test flight, McCormick achieves a successful run but crash-lands a prototype B-25 at Alexander Field in Northern California. His friend Harry Finley greets him and reveals that Project B has produced a working cryogenic chamber. The discovery introduces the possibility of freezing a person for future revival.

The day after the flight, McCormick plans to propose to Helen, but she falls into a coma after a car accident. Doctors doubt she will recover. Overcome with heartbreak, he asks to be put into suspended animation for one year so he won't have to watch her die.

In 1992, Nat and his friend Felix accidentally awaken McCormick from the cryogenic chamber housed in a military storage facility. He quickly realizes he has been frozen for 53 years and escapes his confinement before taking stock of the new era.

McCormick approaches the military to explain his experiences, but they dismiss him as crazy. Determined to learn the truth about the missing years, he resolves to uncover what happened to the project and to his own life.

Following the jacket address, McCormick tracks Nat to his home and befriends the boy. He uses Nat's treehouse as a safe place to observe the world outside and to begin rebuilding a life after decades in stasis.

While hidden, McCormick intervenes when Nat's mother Claire is attacked by her abusive ex-boyfriend Fred. He helps repair the damage and Claire tends his wounds; a gentle bond grows between them, and Claire invites him to stay.

To give Nat a sense of flight, McCormick and Nat create a simulated bomber cockpit in the treehouse and begin training. The improvised lessons bring them closer and rekindle McCormick's love of flight.

As McCormick's body ages rapidly, his health deteriorates and he is hospitalized. Doctors explain that the rapid aging is irreversible, forcing him to confront a limited time in the present.

McCormick finds Finley's daughter Susan, who shares her father's journals and explains that Finley died in a lab fire before she was born. The documents describe the cryogenic process and the truth that the rapid aging observed in McCormick cannot be reversed.

The FBI discovers there was a warehouse lab fire in the early 1940s in which Finley and other scientists died trying to rescue the frozen McCormick. The chamber was mistaken for a water heater, and the truth of his freezing remained hidden for decades.

Susan's information also confirms that Helen is still alive. McCormick and his allies realize she has been waiting for him, deepening their stakes to reach her.

Claire drives the group to an air show and, with Nat stowing away, commandeers a B-25 bomber to fly toward Helen's seaside lighthouse. The plan hinges on reaching the person he loves and reuniting the past with the present.

During a final aging episode, McCormick reunites with Helen at her lighthouse home. Helen accepts his marriage proposal as the trio—McCormick, Helen, and Nat—join hands and set off for a seaside stroll toward a hopeful future.
