Benny Fikus decides to cash in on his fire insurance by committing arson. He schemes to have Sherman escape from a mental hospital to burn down the clothing store, which he has convinced Sherman is Nazi headquarters. The plan sets the plot in motion and introduces the danger of the staged crime.
