Feast of July

Embeth Davidtz's character, Isabella Ford, begins her journey on foot, arriving in Addisford in a weak state. She gives birth to a stillborn baby during a stop at a deserted cabin, which she buries before continuing her travel. Her dire circumstances set the tone for her seeking refuge in Addisford.

Late in the evening, Bella arrives in Addisford and encounters lamplighter Ben Wainwright. She seeks information about Arch Wilson, but Ben doesn't know him. Seeing her distress, Ben offers her shelter and takes her to his house, where she is welcomed.

Bella stays with the Wainwrights, helping around the house as she recovers. She is unable to eat and appears emotionally fragile, still haunted by her past and her missing family. She begins to adapt to her new environment despite her hardships.

Jedd, one of the Wainwright sons, returns from the army and begins to flirt with Bella during a walk. His attention causes some tension, especially with Con, another brother, who is annoyed by Jedd's advances.

During the crop harvest, Jedd forcefully involves Bella in a shady spot, leading to Con attacking Jedd out of anger. Jedd retaliates with a rake, but Mrs. Wainwright intervenes to stop the fight, highlighting the brewing tensions within the family.

Bella participates in a village party, dancing with Jedd and Con. She discusses Jedd's temper with Con later, expressing her wish for peace in the household and emphasizing her desire to avoid trouble.

Bella follows Arch home and learns he is married with a child. Disillusioned, she decides to leave Addisford, but Con rushes to the station to persuade her to stay, confessing his love and supporting her troubled past.

Con unexpectedly proposes to Bella during a breakfast, and she accepts. They go boating on the river, but their happiness is shattered when Arch mocks them, and a confrontation ensues, leading Con to kill Arch in a fit of rage.

Following the killing, Con and Bella escape to a deserted house, where they spend the night together, professing love. They then head towards Selmouth, trying to leave their troubled past behind.

In Selmouth, Con notices Bella's interactions with local men, which makes him suspicious. Con, overwhelmed by guilt, decides to surrender himself to the authorities, asking Bella to say goodbye.

Despite the Wainwright family's hostility, Bella visits Con in prison. Con is eventually hanged on the day she leaves Addisford, and they share an emotional farewell. Bella's emotional state signals her pregnancy with Con's child.

In the final scene, Bella is on a boat headed to Dublin. She touches her stomach and smiles, indicating that she is pregnant with Con's child, symbolizing hope and continuity despite the tragic events.
