In Granada, Sibilla dances at the cabaret El Dorado, earning just enough for her sick child. Her child's father, Estimia, refuses aid, fearing harm to his daughter Iliana’s arranged marriage to a wealthy noble. Iliana flees the ceremony to meet Hedwick, a Swedish painter. Sibilla blackmails Estimia by locking the lovers overnight in the Alhambra.
