Dolores, a beautiful young woman, works at the inn Daroca and is courted by the local barber Melchor and by Mr. Patricio, the region’s wealthiest farmer. One day Lazarus, a Latin student, arrives at the inn and falls for her, but his affection is not returned. Frustrated, Melchor composes the famous song about Dolores, which quickly becomes known throughout the town and tarnishes her honor.
