Dust Bunny

One night Aurora sneaks to the hallway and watches her neighbor in unit 5B defeat a dragon costume worn by armed gang members in Chinatown. She realizes the dragon is just people in costume and that real danger hides in plain sight. This incident seeds her belief that monsters lurk nearby.

Aurora becomes convinced there is a monster under her bed. She warns her parents not to step on the floor to avoid waking it. They brush off her fears and try to reassure her.

After telling them goodbye, Aurora wakes to find the apartment ravaged and her parents missing. She suspects assassins have attacked them. The scene leaves her alone with the looming threat.

Desperate, she tries to hire Resident 5B to kill the monster. 5B and his handler Laverne talk about responsibility toward the girl, and he expresses a need to protect her after learning her parents may be dead.

5B decides to take responsibility for Aurora, while Laverne reveals she recruited the earlier attackers to remove loose ends. They form a fragile alliance around the girl as danger looms.

Two hitmen come to the apartment. 5B engages in hand to hand combat and kills one, while the other is seized by an unseen force as the struggle continues.

Brenda, a child protection agent, arrives and questions 5B about Aurora's guardians. She explains that Aurora has been living with foster guardians and is now in a dangerous situation.

The group meets again and Laverne admits she hired the attackers to clean up loose ends. They also learn that a bounty has been placed on 5B, raising the stakes for everyone involved.

The assassin and his team trail 5B and Aurora back to the apartment. A fierce firefight breaks out involving 5B, the FBI, and the hitmen as the danger closes in.

During the chaos, the monster, a vicious giant bunny, erupts from the floors and begins consuming people around. Aurora is the only one who seems spared as the creature wreaks havoc in the apartment.

After an earlier burst, 5B emerges from the floor but is spat out by the monster thanks to a coating of thumb-sucking deterrent. Laverne arrives to finish the job and protect Aurora, stepping into the deadly chaos.

Laverne arrives and 5B pleads with her not to kill Aurora, revealing that Laverne is his mother. The monster reemerges, attacks Laverne, and threatens both of them as the chaos continues.

Aurora asserts control by telling the monster no, and she accepts the creature as part of her. 5B and Aurora decide to leave the city to start anew. They drive along a sunny highway, with the monster running beside the car as a constant companion.
