Old Dag lives on Björndal with his sons Tore and Dag Junior, constantly feuding with noble landowner Lord von Gall and his daughter Elisabeth. At a village dance Tore abruptly grabs Elisabeth and whisks her across the floor, provoking her to enlist Lieutenant Margas against the hot‑headed farmer. The confrontation ends with Tore’s death, sparking a tragic escalation.
