One day, Venu, Sreenivasan, a laborer from Arun’s home town in Kerala, informs him that his mother is ill. Unable to leave Dubai due to the ever-present debt burden, Arun turns to Narayana Menon, Maniyanpilla Raju—a local connection from his homeland—who arranges for Arun to obtain permission to travel back to India. Once back, he is manipulated into marrying Narayana’s niece, Rajasree, Anusree Nair, a village girl with little understanding of city life. Venu steps in, paying the first installment to the bank and arranging a plan for Arun to repay in installments, a gesture that offers a fragile lifeline. Maya’s condition worsens due to the overdose, and Lakshmi—who had initially administered the first dose at the hospital—faces disciplinary action and is dismissed from duty.
