Meena and Rajendra Kumar are deeply in love, and their relationship leads to a pregnancy that sets the stage for a series of emotional and social upheavals. After becoming pregnant, Meena is overwhelmed with a mixture of happiness and worry, knowing the potential hurdles they might face. When she gives birth to a beautiful baby boy, she makes a heroic decision: to leave him in a dark forest, where a snake guards his tiny life, symbolizing the dangers and sacrifices involved in their forbidden love.
On her journey back from the city, fate intervenes in the form of Manmohan Krishna, who notices the abandoned infant. Showing kindness and compassion, Abdul Rasheed takes the child under his wing, despite being disowned by society himself because the baby is illegitimate and their pasts are shrouded in secrecy. Abdul, determined to protect and raise the boy, names him Roshan and vows to give him a good life, regardless of the societal rejection he faces.
Meanwhile, Meena finds work as an assistant to a lawyer, Jagdish Chandra. Their relationship blossoms, leading to marriage, with Meena hiding her painful past from her new husband, who is unaware of her former love and the child they lost. Mahesh Kapoor, now a judge, is happily married to Malti Rai Nanda and has a son named Ramesh, played by Daisy Irani. The lives of these two families are intertwined when, unexpectedly, Roshan and Ramesh meet at school, sparking a series of revelations and emotional confrontations.
During a school event, Abdul openly shares the story of how he found Roshan in the forest eight years earlier, pointing out the deep bond between the boy and his roots. Roshan and Ramesh quickly become friends, and Ramesh develops a protective attitude towards Roshan, especially when the other children tease him. Ramesh’s kindness extends to inviting Roshan into his home, where his mother Malti warmly welcomes him. However, Mahesh, overwhelmed by societal prejudices, cruelly rejects Roshan, dismissing him as illegitimate and unworthy of their respect.
This rejection plunges Roshan into sadness and bad company, ultimately leading to tragic consequences. He gets involved in a theft, despite being innocent, and is brought to trial in the courtroom of Judge Mahesh Kapoor. As the case unfolds, Abdul seeks out Ashok Kumar to represent Roshan in court. During the proceedings, Abdul reveals the heartbreaking details of Roshan’s origins and shares how he found him in the forest, enabling Meena to recognize her son. Her heartfelt testimony confirms Roshan’s true lineage to Mahesh, who, remorseful, admits his mistake and the injustice he has done.
The following day, Malti finally realizes the truth and asks Mahesh to go to Abdul’s house and bring Roshan home, acknowledging him as their son. Meanwhile, Meena, overwhelmed with emotions, contemplates quietly leaving her family, but Jagdish intervenes, expressing his respect and encouraging her to reclaim her child. Together, Mahesh and Malti visit Abdul’s home, initially hesitant but ultimately convinced by Abdul’s unwavering love and integrity. In a touching conclusion, Abdul, moved by the sincerity of their request, hands over Roshan to his mother, allowing the boy finally to find a sense of belonging and family, closing an emotional chapter filled with love, sacrifice, and societal rejection.
