In 1942, chaos erupts at the Calcutta docks as rival gangs clash violently. During the fray, notorious gangster Yang Guang brutally blinds a competitor, leaving him presumed dead amid the chaos.

Some time later, Byomkesh Bakshy meets his classmate Ajit, who reveals his father, chemist Bhuvan Banerjee, has been missing for over two months without explanation. This revelation ignites a spark of curiosity in Byomkesh despite his initial reluctance to get involved.

Initially dismissive, Byomkesh suggests Bhuvan might be involved in dubious activities, leading to a confrontation where Ajit angrily slaps him. This event deepens the tension and eventually compels Byomkesh to reconsider his position in the investigation.
