Deliver Us from Evil

A parachutist lands near the group as they hike through the Northern Rocky Mountains. A radio broadcast reports that a skyjacker bailed out of an aircraft nearby, prompting the hikers to search for him the next day.

The group tracks the jumper and Cowboy shoots and kills the fleeing skyjacker. They bury his body and later discover the stash of money in his sleeping bag, triggering hard choices about what to do next.

They find the money in the skyjacker's sleeping bag after burying him. A heated argument follows over whether to keep the cash, with Dixie and Nick resisting due to honesty and past financial troubles.

On a precipice trail, Dixie loses his grip and falls to his death. His death destabilizes the group and drastically changes how they view the loot and their future.

Realizing the authorities don’t know the precise location of the skyjacker, the group agrees to split up the ransom. Nick reluctantly accepts the plan, hoping to preserve some fairness.

Aging Al Zabrocki struggles with the heavy load of gear and money. His physical strain signals that the journey ahead is hazardous and could jeopardize more lives.

Zabrocki suffers a heart attack while the group presses on. Believing the others have stolen his share, he dies after giving chase, marking a grim turn in the trek and the money's fate.

The party reaches raging rapids while crossing slick rocks. Arnold loses his footing after shedding his backpack to lighten his load, and Cowboy and Nick can only watch as he is swept away. The moment fuels accusations of greed among the survivors.

With Arnold gone, Nick accuses Cowboy of greed for rifling Arnold's pack. Cowboy denies having any real desire for the money and even threatens to throw it into the river if Nick won't take his share. The dispute complicates the already fragile trust among the survivors.

The group pushes over the snowy summit while Steven's wet socks threaten frostbite. They redistribute the ransom so Steven can travel lighter, allowing Cowboy and Nick to carry the remaining packs while Steven travels ahead to warm his feet.

A fierce snowstorm forces the trio apart; Nick searches for Steven while Cowboy pushes on alone. The harsh weather tests their endurance as they try to stay alive and protect the cash.

Caught out in the open, Cowboy fails to ignite his money in the wind and snow and dies from exposure. Nick then starts a fire to save Steven, keeping the last living member of the group alive through the night.

In the morning light, Nick sees a group of buildings on the slope below but finds no tracks or sign of his backpack. He resolves to seek help, ending the immediate danger and leaving the fate of the money uncertain.
