Dead Man

Set during the American Westward expansion era, where industrial towns rise around resource extraction and transport routes. The plot features trains, bounty hunters, and federal figures typical of late 1800s frontier life, alongside Indigenous and settler tensions.

Machine is a remote frontier company town dominated by a metal works plant, its hostility toward outsiders marking the harsh edges of industrial expansion. The journey ultimately travels to a Makah village by the Pacific Ocean, where river journeys and coastlines shape the fates of Blake and Nobody. The Makah settlement represents traditional Indigenous life standing alongside the encroaching American frontier.

Blake’s sense of self is tested as he is mistaken for the reincarnation of a poet and forced to confront mortality. The bullet wound makes him a literal walking dead man, challenging whether identity is defined by memory or circumstance. Nobody’s belief in Blake’s reincarnation adds a spiritual layer to his existential journey.
