Martin Delambre drives to Montreal where he meets Patricia Stanley, a young woman running in her underwear. They fall in love quickly and marry, despite their deep secrets. Patricia has escaped from a mental asylum, and Martin and his father Henri are pursuing radical teleportation experiments with horrific consequences looming over them.

Patricia's asylum past shadows their new life as they settle into marriage. The Delambres operate a lab that teleports people between Quebec and London, but earlier attempts produced disfigured and insane victims. Martin's recessive fly genes force him to rely on a youth serum to slow his aging.

Police close in and revelations begin

The police and the headmistress of the asylum trace Patricia to the Delambre estate and confirm that she has married Martin. They also discover that Martin had a previous wife who was never divorced. Inspector Charas informs Inspector Ronet about the Delambre family and their experiments.

Abandonment plan and Samuels attack

As investigators close in, the Delambres decide to abandon their work and erase the evidence by teleporting Samuels and Dill to the London lab. Samuels awakens during the transport and violently attacks Martin, threatening to reveal the project.

With Henri's help they subdue Samuels, but the plan goes wrong when they can't reach Albert. They teleport one of the assistants anyway, and Albert destroys the reintegration device, horrified by the writhing mass that would result and kills it.
