Luis, a single middle‑aged man, returns from Barcelona to Segovia to inter his mother’s remains in the family vault. He stays with his aunt Pilar in the old house where he spent the summer of 1936. On the first floor he meets his cousin Angelica—his first love—who now lives with her husband and daughter, stirring memories of his childhood during the Spanish Civil War that mingle with the present.
