Andrés, the aging heir of a once‑wealthy Chilean family, lives in decay and loneliness. He employs the young Estela to care for his tyrannical, unstable grandmother. Despite class and age gaps, Andrés courts Estela, while her fiancé Mario schemes to profit from his affluent rival’s desires. The oppressive, dilapidated mansion on Santiago’s outskirts mirrors the bourgeoisie’s decline and foreshadows Andrés’s collapse.
