Jade-Faced Tiger abducts Zheng Bi-qiu from the provincial capital, seizing the magistrate. The bandit leader demands the release of his imprisoned master within five days, threatening Zheng Bi-qiu's life if the demand is not met. In response, the Governor orders Golden Swallow, his other child, to rescue her brother.

Golden Swallow disguises herself as a man and travels to confront Tiger's bandits at a local inn. She demonstrates formidable sword skills and holds her own against the attackers, signaling her capability as a rescuer. The tense standoff sets the tone for the dangerous mission ahead.

Later that night, Drunken Cat intervenes to save Golden Swallow from an ambush. He appears as a hedonistic drunkard, but his real role is guiding and protecting her. He also communicates the bandits' whereabouts through a coded song about the temple (廟), revealing hidden networks.

Jade-Faced Tiger's gang occupies a local Buddhist monastery with the support of the corrupt abbot Liao Kung. The monastery's power structure enables Tiger to operate with impunity and complicates any government action. The siege heightens the stakes of Golden Swallow's rescue mission.

Golden Swallow infiltrates the monastery disguised as a parishioner and enters its compound. She is quickly discovered and forced into combat, fighting against superior numbers. During the clash she is wounded by poison-tipped darts and forced to retreat.

While convalescing, Golden Swallow learns that Drunken Cat is actually Fan Da-pei, a Shaolin master and leader of the Green Wand Kung Fu school. He explains that his blood brother Liao Kung betrayed their master to seize power in the school. They discuss the bamboo staff that symbolizes the master's lineage, a central motive for the conflict.

Fan Da-pei negotiates a prisoner exchange between Zheng Bi-qiu and the bandits' master. The arrangement is intended to secure Bi-qiu's release without further hostage concessions and to shift leverage in the ongoing conflict.

After Zheng Bi-qiu is released, Fan ambushes the bandits and prevents their master from being released. The ambush disrupts the criminals' plan and strengthens Fan's position in the conflict.

Government soldiers march the bandit leader back to prison, but the bandits attack the procession. Golden Swallow leads her female warriors to defend the convoy, killing all but Jade-Faced Tiger. Jade-Faced Tiger is spared at the intervention of Liao Kung.

Fan confronts Liao Kung, holds the elder at swordpoint, and demands that he reform his evil ways in exchange for his life. Liao seems to agree, signaling a potential shift in loyalties and the faction's future.

Although Liao appears to reform, he later attacks Fan at his own house, betraying the trust that had formed between brothers. The betrayal escalates the personal feud and deepens the climactic conflict.

In their final confrontation, Fan kills Liao Kung with their master's bamboo staff. The staff carries the weight of their shared history and the rescue's moral dimensions, ending Liao's treachery.
