The film is divided into two linked stories. In the first, Matilda longs for stylish stockings she cannot afford; when she appears at school wearing hand‑sewn ones made by her grandmother, she becomes the object of mockery, leading her to take a drastic step. The second follows Jadźka, also ridiculed at school, whose fear of humiliation drives her to increasingly skip classes and retreat into an intense, autistic‑like inner fantasy world.
