Closed Curtain

The unnamed screenwriter arrives at a secluded, three-story villa situated by the beautiful Caspian Sea. Accompanied only by his pet dog, 'Boy,' he intends to find solitude away from the outside world and the dangers associated with having a dog in his current surroundings.

In an effort to protect his dog, the screenwriter goes to great lengths to keep 'Boy' hidden from authorities. Aware of the Islamic law that deems dogs unclean, he shaves his head and covers the villa's windows with black curtains to obscure their presence.

On a stormy night, the tranquility of the villa is disrupted when Melika and her brother Reza unexpectedly break in. They reveal that they are fleeing from the police after escaping an illegal beach party where alcohol was consumed, thus seeking refuge in the isolated villa.

As the writer urges them to leave the villa, Reza makes a shocking confession that his sister, Melika, is suicidal. This revelation compels the writer to reconsider his initial intention of leaving to find a vehicle, as he grapples with the gravity of the situation.

Melika's presence begins to unsettle the writer, leading to a series of cryptic conversations filled with deceit and theatrics. As she pries into his personal life, the writer's paranoia intensifies, raising suspicions that she could be spying for the police.

Tension escalates when Melika insists on opening the black curtains that the writer had carefully closed. This act ignites a confrontation between them, as the writer fears exposure to the authorities while feeling increasingly threatened by Melika’s unpredictability.

Just as Melika suddenly disappears, the writer finds himself alone in the villa. Panic ensues when thieves break in through the back patio door, prompting him and 'Boy' to hide, listening intently to the sounds of chaos and uncertainty unfolding around them.

The narrative takes an unexpected turn as acclaimed film director Jafar Panahi and his crew enter the villa, revealing that all prior events had been part of an elaborate fiction. This shift alters the perspective of the story, blending reality with the writer's imagination.

As Panahi's life unfolds in mundane moments within the villa, he navigates interactions with repair workers and friends. While these moments are ordinary, Melika's haunting presence lingers in the background, creating an unsettling atmosphere.

In a surreal turn of events, Melika ventures into the Caspian Sea, leading Panahi to follow her. However, in a bizarre twist, the scene rewinds, bringing him back to the safety of the villa and the reality of the unfolding story.

After the surreal experience in the water, Panahi begins reviewing photographs on his cell phone. These images document the moments leading up to the initial encounter between the writer, Melika, and Reza, visually chronicling the events that transpired.

The film culminates with Jafar Panahi preparing to leave the villa, marking the end of his strange encounter. As he departs, Melika watches him go, symbolizing the unresolved nature of their interactions and the duality of fiction and reality.
