In Kansas City, 1933, Detective Speer goes to a quiet diner for a cup of coffee when two men burst in chasing former private eye Murphy. The tense moment erupts into violence as a hulking goon slams Speer's coffee and Murphy becomes the target. Speer reluctantly intervenes, and Murphy's life is saved in a flash.
