The documentary follows poet‑turned‑president Václav Havel, beginning in 1992 and examining his position after Czechoslovakia’s breakup—a personal defeat because he had fought to keep the federation together. Despite opposition and accusations of responsibility, Havel runs for president of the new Czech Republic. Director Pavel Koutecký made it his most important project; after his 2006 death Janek finished the film.
