Ariane Christ and Gerhard Christ, a wealthy Munich couple, are packing for a weekend away that they claim will take them abroad. While they prepare, their twelve-year-old daughter Angela Christ, who is disabled and walks with crutches, stays home under the care of her mute governess Traunitz. In truth, the couple have lied about their travel plans. Confident that his wife and daughter will be elsewhere, Gerhard Christ invites his longtime mistress Irene Cartis to the family country house for a secret weekend tryst.

The Christ family’s rural estate is managed by a cruel, cranky housekeeper, Kast, and her sexually ambiguous son, Gabriel Kast, a pretentious aspiring writer hoping to leverage Gerhard’s connections to publish his work. Upon arriving with his lover Irene, Gerhard rushes into the living room only to encounter Ariane on the floor, discovered with her lover, and Kolbe, Gerhard’s assistant.
