In the present, Arjun, a London-based DJ, enjoys a carefree life, while Anu is pursuing an MBA at a London university. A sudden summons drags them back to Karaikudi: [Arjun] must safeguard his ancestral property from an auction, and [Anu] is called home to meet her father, Ammaiyappan, who lies injured. Their paths cross on a train, sparking a shared journey toward destinations that stretch beyond mere geography. On this journey, a diary belonging to [Arjun]‘s father falls into his hands, prompting him to pore over it and confront the history of his father’s love life.

The story then shifts into a vivid flashback set in 1985. [Sekhar] is a village-born police officer who returns home after his selection, and he falls for [Meenal], a romance that faces stubborn resistance from family due to class differences. Devastated by the barriers, Sekhar leaves to begin his police training, where he meets a young colleague named [Ammaiyappan], who harbors his own hidden love—directed toward his uncle’s daughter. The film gradually reveals that both men are in love with the same woman, Meenal, who returns affection to Sekhar. When Sekhar learns of the depth of her feelings, Ammaiyappan’s heartbreak drives him toward despair, and Sekhar, weighed down by guilt over concealing his love, ends their relationship and departs the village, leaving Meenal distraught.

Returning to the present, Arjun and Anu, after weathering a sequence of obstacles, arrive at their respective family homes and recognize that they have developed genuine feelings for one another. The narrative then introduces a pivotal, almost fateful turn: a deus ex machina in the figure of Ammaiyappan, Anu’s father, who steps in to tie up loose ends and guide the fate of the entwined lovers. He reveals a crucial connection—Anu is in love with Sekhar’s son, Arjun—and discloses that Sekhar had been his old friend who once sacrificed his own happiness for Ammaiyappan’s welfare, a revelation that casts their friendship in a new, noble light.
