In the sweltering summer of Baltimore, 14-year-old Mouse grapples with the tragic death of his older brother Stro, who died in a biking accident at just 17. This loss weighs heavily on him, pulling him between his love for motorbikes and his mother's warnings.

Despite his mother's concerns, Mouse is irresistibly drawn to The Ride, a weekly motorbike showcase where riders exhibit their skills. This event embodies the thrill that captivates him, despite the inherent dangers.

Mouse attends The Ride with friends Lamont and Sweartagawd, where he impulsively decides to purchase an old four-wheeler. This decision leads to a tense encounter with the police, particularly Detective Rivers, who has been a mentor figure in Mouse's life.

During his adventures, Mouse meets Nicki, a newcomer who shares his passion for photography. He invites her to join him and his friends at The Ride, marking the beginning of a budding friendship.

While at The Ride, Mouse becomes fascinated with the Midnight Clique, a biker gang known for their thrilling stunts. The gang’s leader, Blax, who has recently been released from prison, significantly leaves an impression on him.

Later, Mouse unexpectedly runs into Blax at a local bike repair shop, where Blax works as part of his parole. Their conversation reveals a shared history with Stro, creating an instant bond between the two.

As the summer progresses, Mouse becomes deeply involved in the world of motorbikes, working at Blax's auto shop. However, he starts neglecting his responsibilities, especially at a nearby animal hospital.

Mouse seizes an opportunity to deliver a high-end bike but instead takes Nicki on an impromptu joyride. Their adventure quickly turns into chaos when they encounter Derrick, a dangerous figure from Stro's past.

Realizing Derrick's untrustworthy nature, Mouse and his friends confront him at his chop shop. The situation escalates into a dangerous standoff when Derrick pulls a gun, leading to a dramatic rescue by Blax and the Midnight Clique.

After the confrontation, Blax revokes Mouse's privilege to work on his bike, leading to a rift in their relationship. Mouse’s pleas to be put on the payroll are rejected, pushing him to join the Midnight Clique's illicit activities.

Facing financial challenges at home, Mouse and gang member Lamont devise a plan to rob a convenience store. Unfortunately, Lamont's poor choices lead to tragic consequences when Sweartagawd is killed during the chaotic event.

In the aftermath of the robbery, with Detective Rivers on their trail, Mouse finds refuge at Blax's shop. There, he confides in Blax, who chooses to take the blame for Mouse’s actions, sacrificing himself for the teenager.

As things begin to calm down, Mouse adopts Blax's dog, which brings a renewed sense of peace into his life. This pivotal moment signifies his change and the beginning of his healing process.

With the past behind him, Mouse makes amends with his mother and reconnects with Nicki, offering a heartfelt apology for the mistakes he made. This marks a new chapter, filled with hope and the desire to do better.

At the end of the summer, Mouse encounters Lamont, hinting at the lingering connections of their friendship despite the changes. He returns home, groceries in hand, ready to embrace a fresh start and mend relationships.
