Hojo, a tyrannical warlord, has seized a village in China, ruthlessly exploiting its ancient treasures for his personal gain. His prowess in battle is renowned, but the villagers cling to hope as they remember the legendary defender, Liu Shen, who sacrificed his life for his homeland. According to the village priest’s study of ancient texts, Liu Shen has been reincarnated in another land.
Enter Sidhesh Sharma, affectionately known as Sidhu, played by Akshay Kumar, a humble vegetable vendor at a bustling roadside stall in Chandni Chowk, Delhi. Sidhu has always struggled with his fortunes, seeking guidance from astrologers and so-called spiritual guides despite the wise words of his foster father, Dada (portrayed by Mithun Chakraborty), who tries to steer him toward a more grounded life.
Things take a wild turn when two mysterious strangers from China identify Sidhu as the reincarnation of the valiant ‘Liu Shen’. Encouraged by the sly trickster known as Chopstick, who is well-versed in both Chinese and Indian lore, Sidhu naively anticipates a hero’s welcome in China, believing he will be celebrated. However, Chopstick cleverly conceals the reality that Sidhu’s journey entails a battle against the formidable Hojo, played by Chia Hui Liu.
Reluctantly, Sidhu convinces Dada to let him travel to China, even though Dada has reservations. Upon arrival, Sidhu encounters Sakhi, an Indian-Chinese spokes-model known as “Ms. Tele Shoppers Media,” portrayed by Deepika Padukone, who inadvertently thwarts his plans by stealing his visa appointment token, leaving him in a bind.
Complications arise as Sakhi’s twin sister Suzy, a deadly assassin working undercover for Hojo, remains unaware of her family’s past involving Hojo’s violent history against them. Years earlier, during an assault, Suzy was separated from her family, with their father, Inspector Chiang, played by Roger Yuan, presumed dead. However, unknown to all, he lives nearby as an amnesiac.
As fate would have it, Sakhi, realizing Sidhu is gaining attention in the village, decides to follow him. When Suzy sees Sidhu being revered, she mistakenly confronts him, leading to a comical series of events where both sisters end up entangled in Sidhu’s misguided heroics.
Amidst the confusion, Hojo, ever-vigilant, dispatches Suzy to eliminate Sidhu. In an ironic twist, Sakhi attempts to apologize to Sidhu, but mistaking her for Suzy, he inadvertently knocks her unconscious. As the chaos unfolds, the sisters find themselves captured by Hojo’s men, with Chopstick caught in the middle.
Meanwhile, with the truth about his identity revealed under duress, Sidhu is devastated. Just as Dada, who has been captured and brought to China, arrives to assist him, tragedy strikes—Sidhu is overwhelmed, brutally beaten, and thrown off the Great Wall.
Saved by Inspector Chiang, Sidhu begins his transformation under the wise tutelage of his unexpected mentor. As they bond, Sidhu learns the importance of his roots and begins rigorous training in Kung-Fu while facing the tumultuous challenges posed by Hojo’s criminal empire.
The climax nears, as loyalty and revelations intertwine—despite Hojo’s manipulations, Suzy ultimately forsakes her ties to Hojo and takes a stand. A showdown ensues between Sidhu and Hojo, where Sidhu must employ his vegetable-cutting skills in an unexpected yet impactful way.
In the end, after a thrilling battle that pits Sidhu against his dictatorial nemesis, he triumphs, bringing peace to the villagers. Having discovered his newfound strength and purpose, Sidhu opens a humble vegetable stall in China, but the adventure isn’t over, as he sets off to help African pygmies, embracing his role as a true hero.
