In New York City, a city pulsing with ambition and shifting loyalties, Lee Simon navigates a life he never quite earned: an unsuccessful novelist turned fame-hunting celebrity journalist. He thrives on attention, chasing interviews and headlines, but his true aim remains elusive. During a set visit with the movie star Nicole Oliver, Lee’s attention strays to Nola, a young background extra who catches his eye. Their flirtation hints at something more than a routine interview, and Nicole, seeing the deal-making potential in Lee, takes him to visit her childhood home. There, a charged moment unfolds as Nicole offers him oral sex, and Lee pivots quickly to pitching her on a screenplay he’s written, trying to turn personal fascination into professional leverage.

The day escalates into nightlife spectacle. At a fashion show, Lee’s 1967 Aston Martin becomes a magnet for eye contact and desire when a deeply sensitive supermodel responds to him with unmistakable interest. She invites him home after a night out, only to storm off in disappointment when Lee, distracted, crashes his car into a store window—an emblematic misstep that follows him through the story as a symptom of his impulsive, self-centered pursuit of happiness.

The final act unfolds at Nicole Oliver’s movie premiere, where the ever-changing dynamics of love and career collide. Robin—now portrayed as successful, married, and pregnant—reencounters the man who still wrestles with happiness and purpose, Lee.
