Rachel and Serena attend a book signing by essayist Mason Norfolk. Later, they visit a cafe where Rachel mentions her parents' fight and separation. This reveals her troubled family background and emotional scars.

Rachel, Serena, and Richard go to a restaurant where Richard runs into old friends Henry Tish and Kevin Simms. The evening takes a turn when Richard notices Peter Ford flirting with Tammy Diez, causing Richard to feel jealous and Eva to leave abruptly.

Inspector Meguire, Eva, and Dr. Agasa are attacked by a mysterious assailant who leaves behind symbolic items linked to playing cards. Conan deduces that the killer is targeting victims based on a sequence influenced by card suits, related to Richard and his past.

Conan uncovers the backstory of Richard’s past involving Morono, where Richard shot Eva in the thigh during a tense hostage situation. This event led Richard to resign from the police force, and Rachel becomes distraught upon learning the truth.

The team visits AquaCrystal, the entertainment complex, where they encounter multiple murders. They find Christopher Aston dead in a fish tank, attached to a card, indicating the killer's symbolic game involving playing cards and death.

Nina Oliver is attacked and murdered in a darkened wine cellar after a heated argument. Conan notices clues like a broken nail, missing wine cork, and a palm print, leading to the realization that the killer is right-handed and targeting specific victims based on a deadly sequence.

Multiple bombs explode at AquaCrystal, causing the complex to sink into the sea. The attack is part of Kevin Simms’ elaborate plan, aiming to eliminate primary targets and escape via helicopter amidst the chaos.

Kevin Simms, revealed as the true serial killer, takes Rachel hostage in the sinking complex. Conan and Richard confront him at the top of AquaCrystal, with Richard delivering a decisive throw. Kevin slips but is saved by Richard and arrested, ensuring he faces justice.

Richard shoots a gun at Kevin, unintentionally grazing Rachel. He then heroically intervenes to subdue Kevin, explaining that his actions were based on stopping more murders and that the gunshot was a misguided effort to protect Rachel.

Kevin confesses that his killings stem from ageusia, a taste disorder he developed after trauma. He targeted victims connected to his inability to taste, using his expertise as a sommelier to disguise his identity and execute his plan.

After all is resolved, Eva explains that her departure was caused by Richard insulting her cooking after the hostage incident. Conan, Rachel, and the others reflect on the truth behind their relationships, ending the story on a note of reconciliation.
