The children’s stepmother pretends to be humble and kind, but she is wicked and, together with a cruel stepsister, torments them. After she poisons their father to claim his fortune, Little Brother and Sister flee. The stepmother, a witch, bewitches forest streams so that any water the fleeing children drink will transform them into animals.
